Inspired by the paintings of Salvador Dali and bassist Bill Noertker’s
journeys in Catalonia, Suite for Dali takes you to the place were jazz
melts into surrealism. What Dali did for painting, this CD does for jazz.
Deep swing morphs into circus melodies. Beauty fades into cacophony. At
times raucous, at times pensive, always soulful, this CD takes you on an
aural pilgrimage to Catalonia, birthplace of many innovative artists.
In the last decade, Bill Noertker has composed over 150 original
pieces of music for jazz ensemble. His compositions point to the continuity
between the jazz tradition and the avant-garde. His use of group improvisation
and his attention to the individual voices of each of his bandmates call
forth the human element so sorely missing from much of today’s jazz.

C. J. Reaven Borosque “MACHINE”
an experiment in noise
Multi-artist C.J. Reaven Borosque pulls no punches with her first
release of solo guitar saturated in noise, distortion, and looping.
C.J. Reaven Borosque is a San Francisco Bay Area guitarist, writer,
and abstract visual artist. Coming from a family of “jazz” musicians, she
began playing violin at the age of five, moving to the saxophone in her
teens. After a brief hiatus from music she found her true love, guitar.
Her preferences lie in a multitude of genres, with emphasis on experimental
music and noise, using both de-tuned and prepared guitars. She has performed
with Kaylee Coombs in the ambient experimental duo Swoon Doll, Rent Romus’
Lords of Outland and John Berndt among others. Her recent noise CD, “Machine”
has recently been released on Edgetone. This album is her solo debut as
a noise artist.
“Feel the chaos. Let the waves crash over your head. Absorb every
body blow."

SATURDAY JULY 26 2003 THE 2nd ANNUAL OAKLAND NOISE FEST! An evening

XOME STIMBOX PEDESTRIAN DEPOSIT CLEW OF THESEUS (AZ) GONG GONG
The second annual Oakland Noise Fest, curated by Tyler
Cox (Gong Gong, The Mass), brings to the bay area the
harshest sounds the noise world has to offer.
Listeners will be treated to a plethora of sonic
extremes, cathartic performances and sounds never
before heard. The "harsh noise" genre, pioneered by
such Japanese masters as Merzbow, Masonna and Kazumoto
Endo, has been violently brewing in the musical
underground for decades, and is now being recognized
worldwide as the new standard in extreme music. Where
so-called "extreme" metal and free jazz have failed to
challenge listeners with new ideas, the noise world
pummels audiences with the sound of electronic music
gone insane, stripped of its precious "beats" and
dropped into a sonic blender. Bring your earplugs and
an open mind, and prepare to leave mentally abused,
enlightened and exhausted. A once-a-year event not to
be missed.

U.I.R.C. is proud to officially announce the addition of Accretions.
Accretions is an artist-based independent record label in San Diego,
California with an ear towards experimental, improvisational and global
sounds.
ARTISTS
Nortec Collective | Kristy Cheadle | Lesli Dalaba
Donkey | Lisle Ellis | Hans Fjellestad
Marcos Fernandes | Scott Fields | Hans Fjellestad
Fred Frith | Damon Holzborn | Nathan Hubbard
Marcelo Radulovich | Eric Glick Rieman | Jason Robinson
Robert Montoya | Joscha Oetz | Travis Ryan | Trummerflora Collective
and more…
As the name Accretions implies, we strive to grow a community of artists whose creative works reflect cultural and stylistic diversity. Experimental music by nature is well-equipped for adventurous exploration and hybridization of the myriad sonic choices available. We attempt also to put in place a mechanism for its dissemination, working outside of commercial constraints and corporate myopia that conspire to homogenize the creative process. We want to empower the artist and the listener alike.
Accretions was first conceived in 1985 as an arts and culture magazine. Though the publication never left the drawing board, Marcos Fernandes produced a two-song flexi-disc by worldbeat group, Guam Caucus, for insertion in the magazine. A year later, Accretions was launched as a label to release records by Fernandes' own group Burning Bridges. It remained a vehicle for the band until 1994 when it became an "official" label with the release of multi-instrumentalist and composer Marcelo Radulovich's debut CD. This marked the beginning of Fernandes and Radulovich's collaborative production work which has given birth to half a dozen Accretions releases.
Accretions in conjunction with ZuCasa.com and other sympathetic entities
has formed the Trummerflora Collective, a diverse group of active San Diego
composers, performers, and improvisers dedicated to the performance, distribution,
and promotion of experimental and improvised musics.

Recursive Heretics explores the concept
of feedback at all levels between a performer and a processor in a live
improvisational setting. Together they explore the concept of feedback
in live performance as the saxophone sound is transformed by live, automated
and manipulated signal processing using a customized Max/MSP setup.
The results of this processing vary from subtle shifts in the original
sound to a completely unique and distinct voice. The processed sound
is then fed back to the player, who alters his playing to react to the
processed reaction, which is then reacted upon by the processor, and so
on, achieving a conversation of ever widening scope and depth, larger than
either player or processor could create alone.
