This gem of a recording by the ever-elusive KliP trio takes you back to the days of high quality LPs while presenting an expanded musical adventure in modern improvised music.
The musicians who make up the KLiP trio have worked together off and on in various configurations for more than twelve years and have performed in a wide variety of venues, from concert stages to college campuses and nightclubs throughout California. Their backgrounds are as eclectic as their music, reflecting their involvement in western classical music, avant-garde jazz, industrial, electronic music, as well as funk, bebop, rock, and world music. Individually, they have recorded and/or performed with Marshall Allen, John Butcher, Eugene Chadbourne, Bill Champlin, Gianni Gebbia, Mats Gustafsson, Peter Kowald, Milcho Leviev, Eddie Moore, Jimmy Rowles, Wadada Leo Smith, Glenn Spearman, Saadet Turkos, Phil Upchurch, and Bennie Wallace.
The Music:
KLiP's music comes from so many divergent sources that "pigeon-holing"
it is nearly impossible. Influences range from Albert Ayler, John Cage,
Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Cecil Taylor, John
Zorn, and many others. Elliot and Garth are the primary composers and arrangers
for KLiP. Though each of their pieces may have a finely honed interior
structure, there is often room for improvisational explorations. Be it
a contemplative melodic study or a fierce electronic onslaught, the music
of KLiP is that of surprise and discovery.

In a continuing effort to pry open and bend the genres, Edgetone Records is proud to present the Edgetone Razor Series. The series includes the newest installment by SAINT OF KILLERS, a raucous unrelenting storm of sound pummeling improvisation with a sonic sledge hammer.
A post-metal wave of improvised darkness Saint of Killers' primary
objective is to leave listeners with the sensation that life is not all
it's made out to be, that beauty and happiness can only be found once one
can actually acknowledge the ultimate truth of the ugliness and horrors
that is human nature. Either the audience either gets it, or is absolutely
repulsed. Tyler Cox (also of San Francisco proto-progressive punk outfit
The Mass) lays down the crushing and free foundation of uncompromisingly
voluminous percussion. Alwyn Quebido flanks the attack with a focused laser
of unfocused aural mayhem on the guitar. Jesse Quattro rounds out
the core with her stunning array of melodic/cacophony vocal sheets of sound.
They have also performed with the occasional guest(s): Miya Osaki,
Rent Romus, David Slusser, Matt Waters of The Mass, to name a few. Saint
of Killers, who sites Fantomas, Nels Cline, Meshuggah, John Coltrane, Frank
Zappa, Diamanda Galas, and John Zorn as major influences, are constantly
searching for new ways of expressing the sonic truth to themselves while
never swaying from the sound that brought them together in the first place,
which is searing, abrasive, obnoxious, and terrifying free metal destructo
jazz.

The Abstractions began with a thought between Bay Area musician/producers Ernesto Diaz-Infante and Rent Romus. From that thought out grew the ensemble you see before you. Taking from a cross section of music genres and backgrounds, The Abstractions present an unclassifiable set of new sonic textures evoking thought and feelings about urban life and culture. Drawing from improvisational body of knowledge the unspoken words transformed to music, history, and social insight make up the musical repertoire encased in their new release Sonic Conspiracy.

In the spirit of Bay Area artistic experimentation and exploration, THE LEFT COAST IMPROV GROUP (TLCIG) has crystalized from divergent musical and geographic backgrounds to form a unit of unprecedented talent. Its members are products of deep dedication, long study (both in and outside of academia), and many years of performance experience.
The emphasis of the group's approach is on relaxation, freedom, and listening, rather than individual virtuosity which, nevertheless, underlies the ensemble as an unfailing support for its cohesive expressiveness.
The Left Coast Improv Group an ever-changing configuration and brainchild of the Improv Wizard himself Jim Ryan presents their most stellar recording to date now available on Edgetone Records.

"I watched as you shaped in Crystalline Sweetheart, Kafka's Gregor
in a new form, female, and more generous in its estimation of itself...capable
of dancing, celebrating the discovery of its difference"
Dr. Demetrius Frederich Ké, satrap aka, Dr. Charles Poncé
C.J. Reaven Borosque is a deep contemporary San Francisco Bay Area renaissance artist. Writer, musician, and abstract visual artist she is the hope and spirit that embodies San Francisco and the west coast as a Mecca of creativity. Her uncompromising writings present stark truths about society at large, and the ever-changing mindset of the world and its myriad of cultural ethic, enveloped in abstract futuristic fantasy and surreal mindscapes. Her influences include Phil K. Dick, Frank Herbert, Madeline L'Engle, Silvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, and Allan Ginsberg. Her new book "The Metal Quan Yin", represents a new and original genre of imaginative and stunningly visual science fiction/fantasy poetry.
In 2000, The Lords of Outland presented a series of new music pieces based on her exploratory writings entitled "The Destinations Suite" in the first season of the SIMM Series in San Francisco. In April of 2002, Edgetone has released an addition to her new book a CD of music written to her works by Rent Romus’ Lords of Outland.

Spirit speaks through the drum. Here he plays gongs, bells,
rain stick, singing bowl, donno (West African talking drum), sheet metal,
rachet, cymbals, & rototom, as well as his modified trap kit. “First
of all, my thing is spiritual. Every human has a spirit – without
it you’re dead – so your spirit is what I’m dealing with. Each note
I play represents a certain message, so it depends on where I put the beat,
on how I hit the drum that
makes you respond to a certain thing. For me it’s a religious
matter. Drumming goes with my religion. Drumming is
a language – this language belongs to my religion. So, every
time you see me walking, you see a religious person walking with a spirit.
Everybody’s got spirit. Wherever you are, you’re a spirit of your
own. So you have to find out about your spirit and make sure it gets
on with other people’s spirits. That’s what happens when I play music
with people.” Kwasi Asare Adae Senior drummer,

RELEASES- JIM RYAN’S FORWARD
ENERGY- Double CD SET, CONFIGURATIONS 2002
AVAILABLE at Edgetone Records ONLINE & SECURE at:
& Retail Stores near you!
In what appears to be taking shape as the dark ages of the early 21st century, simply endorsing the music that comprises Configurations 2002 – buying it, listening to it, and above all making it -- can be seen as an act of rebellion. With political and cultural hegemony increasingly becoming the new world order of the day, radical free-thinking creativity runs directly counter to the seemingly inexorable tendencies of globalization and AOLTime Warner assembly line entertainment. It takes refuge in such virtually undisclosed locations as 21 Grand, The Luggage Store Gallery, 1502 Performance Space, and Kimo’s, venues unknown to the general public while faithfully sustained by the San Francisco Bay Area’s creative music community. On one day in May, 2001, and three days in January, 2002, Jim Ryan gathered the various configurations of his aptly named Forward Energy ensemble in those subterranean haunts and recorded five hours of spontaneous music-making, which have been distilled into this potent double CD.
A philosopher by academic training and a prolific author, Ryan took up music during the late 1960s while living in Paris. Already a fan of bebop, and a nascent bohemian in circles that included William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, he came under the sway of expatriate avant-garde jazz artists, including Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and Steve Lacy. When he returned to the U.S. in 1975, settled in California in 1987, and emerged as a force in the Bay Area improv scene in the mid-1990s, Ryan brought with him both a deep knowledge of jazz history and an uncompromising dedication to freedom of expression. Configuratons 2002 is a full spectrum summation of Ryan’s musical history and experience, realized in moments of extemporaneous collaboration with like-minded co-conspirators. – From the liner notes written by, Derk Richardson SF Bay Guardian, Sfgate.com

JIMZEEN PRODUCTIONS NOW AVAILABLE AT EDGETONE RECORDS!
The Music of Forward Energy featuring sax master Jim Ryan
Poet, writer, philosopher, and musician, Jim Ryan is an original member
of the founding exploratory family of artists of the 20th century.
From his origins in Minnesota to his days in Paris France, his powerful
playing style and truly original voice has pressed forward now permeating
the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond with vibrant spirit.
Jim draws from the ancient forces of the original beat poets rubbing
elbows with such poets as Boroughs and Ginsberg, and new music pieoners
such as, Sonny Murray, Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton,
and the AACM. In the early 70's Jim participated in workshops organized
and led by Steve Lacy while continuing to develop his writing. Exploring
well into the 90’s Jim came to the Bay Area where he launched many groups
one of which is Forward Energy, featuring stellar artists like trumpet
player Eddie Gale and drummer Donald Robinson. In 1998 he became the editor
and publisher of Outside, an underground art and music zine in Oakland,
which featured such artists as Positive Knowledge, Damon Smith, and many
more of the San Francisco Bay Area new sonic music scene. You can hear
this pivotal Bay Area saxophonist presently with Forward Energy now available
online at the Edgetone Records web site.
