Cory Wright is involved in creating music that draws on various forms and idioms but ultimately is about what happens in the less defined space between these elements. To this end he has melded improvisation based playing with compositional structures taken from both jazz and contemporary concert music. In addition to the particular approach to music making in his own projects, Cory has enjoyed playing reeds in performances lead by Anthony Braxton, Vinny Golia, Adam Rudolph & Yusef Lateef, and currently is performing with the Industrial Jazz Group, Wiener Kids, Nightshade and Bristle. His recent projects reflect his interest in blurring the distinction between composed and improvised material and in combining the harmonious with the atonal, and groove with the arrhythmic. |
