Mix Booker Little with the Chicago Underground Duo and you get just a glimpse of what Third Impulse can do. This tight little improv trio sits at the abyss of powerful forces mixing the wild auspices of new sonic ideals with jazz, noise, and a little bit of funk. This exciting group debuts their first and only recording right here at Edgetone Records, recorded live in the pit studios of the Devils Triangle at KFJC.

Memorable is the band’s deconstruction of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”. Here the cello provides a Scottish chanter style-underlying drone, as the breathy trumpet elaborates the melody, then plays call-and-response
with the others via tune variations.
