Toshiyuki Hiraoka is known in the US horror film industry, and the collaborator of Dave-iD Busaras from Virgin Prunes. The Waterphone has been described as acoustic synthesizers, which are often used as sound effects in movies. Waterphone II is the sequel to his first album Waterphone which utilizes not only the unique elements that the Waterphone has to offer but also his original approach to integrating acoustics and electronics.

From the beginning to the end of the album, the abstract tone flies around the left and right of the speaker (or headphones) with a metallic reverberation, and the mysterious listening experience that penetrates the cranial nerves so that the deeply reverberated striking sound melts is an installation It’s similar to. It’s like meditation music reminiscent of Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze, ambient music / ambient music, field recording, but essentially an improvisational document of a live instrument.

I automatically think of rusty fences and a secret torture chamber in the basement, and the added electronics have that ‘howl around the house…Hiaraoka knows how to add a human touch to the music, varying from a soft touch (or rub perhaps), to a more introspective and then a louder ringing/sustaining sound. I have no idea if this is ‘live’ or perhaps in some ways the result of layering and editing, but it doesn’t, the result is beautiful.
